County break club record for striker
Stockport Express
|July 16, 2025
STOCKPORT County have offset the loss of frontman Tanto Olaofe by announcing the signing of Peterborough United forward Malik Mothersille for an undisclosed fee.
-
With Olaofe having joined Charlton Athletic earlier this month, Jamaica international Mothersille became the County’s new record signing, eclipsing the fee paid to Nottingham Forest for Ian Moore in 1998, with Malik signing a three-year deal at Edgeley Park with the option for an additional year.
The 21-year-old joins having just enjoyed a breakthrough season in League One, scoring 16 times and registering ten assists in all competitions; helping Posh to retain the Vertu Trophy with victory against Birmingham City at Wembley.
His performances over his 57 appearances saw him named as the Club's Young Player of the Year.
Prior to that, Mothersille was in Leyton Orient’s academy before joining Chelsea as an Under 16.
He went on to become a scholar at Stamford Bridge, playing in the same squad as the likes of Omari Hutchinson, Lewis Hall and Josh Acheam-pong during his time in their academy.
He enjoyed success playing for ‘The Blues’ U23s side in the EFL Trophy, registering four goals in five appearances during the 2022/23 season - two of which came against his future side, Peterborough United.
