MICHAEL VAN GERWEN said he hopes to win the World Championship to put to bed his 'worst year ever'.
The world No.3 (above) has split from his wife, Daphne, and is going through a divorce.
At the same time, dad Henri is undergoing cancer treatment.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, Van Gerwen, 36, has not won a single ranked major all season, and failed to qualify for the Players Championship Final for the first time in his career.
He has admitted his personal woes have disrupted his darts.
