Grieving mother highlights lack of life-saving ‘bleed kits’ in Scotland

AMID rising concern at knife crime in England, charities and local councils have installed thousands of “bleed kits” to save lives across the country.

The kits - which help to stem severe bleeding from stabbings and assaults as well as falls or road accidents - are now in found in more than 3,000 community settings down south.

In Scotland? One grieving mother whose son died in an alleged stabbing in Edinburgh was horrified to discover there are only six of the kits, and three of those are in “locked cabinets in train stations”.

Lisa Petrie, a 44-year-old social care worker, was motivated to take action after her 22-year-old son John McNab was fatally injured during an incident in Leith on September 2.
