HCC MARKET UPDATE: NEW SEASON LAMB NUMBERS RECOVER

THE number of New Season Lambs (NSL) coming forward recovered from the low during the previous week and increased by some 10% to just over 37,700 head.
Despite the increase, this level remains around 7% below the corresponding week last year. The average also recovered during the most recent week and recorded a notable uplift of over 12p/kg, bringing the NSL average SQQ to 682.5p/kg.
The price gap between this year and last has widened to around 43p, with the current average £1.48/kg higher than the longer-term five-year average.
The steer average deadweight price in England & Wales has recorded its third consecutive week of increases, 2.2p/kg up in the most recent week.
