ANGLESEY saw 20 hours of A55 chaos, amid multiple crashes and lane closures, as treacherous conditions gripped the road.

Motorists had already been warned of icy driving conditions across the North Wales network with the mercury dropping to zero, freezing many roads.

The chaos started with a three-vehicle smash on the A55, shortly before 4pm on Wednesday, when three vehicles crashed, shutting the westbound carriageway between Llanfairpwll and Gaerwen, causing major delays.

There was also a temporary junction closure in place while the vehicles were recovered. Nobody was seriously injured. The carriageway was still closed at 9.20pm, with a lane on the eastbound carriageway also shut.
