Gomez buoyed by Marseille display

JOE GOMEZ has urged Liverpool to take belief from their Champions League victory at Marseille - as he opened up on his partnership with Virgil van Dijk.
‘The Reds moved to the brink of progress to the last 16 with a 3-0 win on Wednesday that put them up to fourth in the standings with one game of the opening stage remaining.
‘Arne Slot’s side can avoid a two-legged playoff next month by beating Azerbaijan champions Qarabag at Anfield on Wednesday.
And having seen hopes of defending the Premier League title all but disappear, Gomez believes Europe can still offer a silver lining. “We know our league position is pretty difficult in terms of trying to retain the championship,’ he said.
“In the Champions League, aiming to qualify and get top eight is massive for us and gives us a real focus try to make something for the season, as it always should be at this club.
