Founded by Nandlal Dhoot in 1979, Videocon gained prominence in the early 1980s after collaborating with Japanese major Toshiba to manufacture and sell colour TVs in India. Under the leadership of Venugopal Dhoot, Nandlal's son, the company started basking in the glory of success. Its success reached another level with the growing popularity of its new products, comprising washing machines and refrigerators.
