Malabar Nut A medicinal plant in your own yard

Yoga and Kundalini are very popular these days. They improve breathing and the nervous system. It is believed that Pranayama helps to increase the activity of nervous system, memory power and intelligence. For this reason the lungs must be kept healthy. Because of its anti-toxic property, Malabar nut is called ‘habit protector’.

In 5th century Buddha recommended this plant to be used against lung problems and tuberculosis. Its effect in correcting uterine disorders is almost equivalent to Ashoka (Saraka Indica). The plant grows upto a height of 5-6 feet, the leaves are oblong, wider at base and sharp at tip. Pedicillate flowers are in inflorescence at the tip of stem.

imageParts Used: Root, Flower, Bark - all have medicinal properties.

Chemical Ingredients: The plant contains oil, fat, an alkali called Vasicin, Adathodic acid, sugar and gum. The root bark has more vasicin and leaf has only 0.25%. This vasicin is the medicine.
