In a short interview, we spoke to each woman about life since their award. First, we asked Makhadzi:
What did the award mean to you?
Winning Artist of the Year meant so much — especially as an independent artist and as a woman. It was a powerful affirmation that we [as local artists] are doing something right.
Do you have a message for future winners?
Stay unique and true to your craft. Hard work truly does pay off.
