A year after the awards, our 2024 winners continue to uplift younger generations and other women. Among these shining stars are Makhadzi, Kat van Duinen, Temi Adenji and Shannon Dougall — all pioneers across the music, fashion and wellness spheres. In a short interview, we spoke to each woman about life since their award. First, we asked Makhadzi:

What did the award mean to you?

Winning Artist of the Year meant so much — especially as an independent artist and as a woman. It was a powerful affirmation that we [as local artists] are doing something right.

Do you have a message for future winners?

Stay unique and true to your craft. Hard work truly does pay off.
