February 2024

IN THIS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, 8TURN SHARES MORE OF WHO THEY ARE, PRECISELY THE PERTINENT ASPECT THAT REFLECTS THEM, THE MUSIC THEY MAKE, AND HOW PROGRESSIVELY TEAMWORK IS MAKING A DREAM WORK

- DEBASHREE DUTTA

8TURN Is Here to Stay

Relatively new to the block though, 8TURN-of MYUNG HO, JAE YUN, MIN HO, YOON SUNG, HAE MIN, KYUNG MIN, YUN GYU, and SEUNG HEON-shines replete with unrestricted potential, which also evokes an element of what 8TURN implies. "Number 8 represents our eight members, and TURN' literally implies that it's our turn!" notes SEUNG HEON, the youngest member, further elucidating, "Also, if you rotate the number 8 by 90 degrees, it becomes an infinity symbol. This represents our ambition to charm people as eight members with infinite possibilities."

A year into the business, several of their songs have amassed millions of views on YouTube. Last year, early this month, MNH Entertainment launched 8TURN, their rookie boy band, and shortly thereafter dropped their debut extended play, 8TURNRISE, featuring the title track "TIC TAC," preceding the sophomore UNCHARTED DRIFT in June, with the EP's lead single "EXCEL." From the music to the performance, the body of work conveyed a strong sense of purpose, voicing an underlying conviction that STURN is an emerging force in K-pop that is here to stay; and they are evolving radically through time.

They come from diverse backgrounds and have distinct traits, yet they are united by an identical desire that speaks to their similarities and goals. While fostering individual dreams, as KYUNG MIN aptly remarks, "I kept thinking about my dream and realized that I wanted to become an idol. I did not give up and worked hard to achieve my dream." MIN HO says, "We grow and move forward together by aiming for the same goal and relying on each other!" That, in my mind, is the thread tying them together in the way they commit to fulfilling their dream. And they are doing it with aplomb.
