CLOSET love
Femina
|February 2023
The thing about fashion is that it makes us think that we need new possessions season after season when, sometimes, all we really need to do is re-examine the contents of our closet and rediscover what has always given us comfort. We share love stories, these objects and us. For this issue, we asked members of the fashion community to dig deep and tell us about belongings that they love. From pieces of jewellery to items of clothing, these contributors have found love in their wardrobes.

A JACKET, A BELT AND A COIN PURSE
"From the time I was very young, I have lived deeply immersed in art and culture and have dived even deeper into this world through my work. In the last two decades of my career in design. I have had the privilege of interacting with various artisan communities across India, which has only deepened my love for craft. Naturally, it manifests in some of my most prized possessions, too. Like an ek taar jacket and a silver coin purse both from my label, and a vintage pure silver belt from my personal collection. For me, this jacket is more than a clothing item; it carries handembroidered chakra motifs that represent my love for nature and the harmony I constantly seek. The coin purse symbolises my artistic journey and a love for heirlooms - a love that has led me to travel far and wide."

GUCCI JACKIE 1961 BAG
"Bags and fragrances have become the most memorable items in my life. With their own unique stories, they are the anchors that tie me to each memory and experience. The Jackie 1961 Bag from Gucci holds some of my fondest memories. The silhouette is always the same yet its identity evolves with each colour and fabric. The most chic and formidable women in my life have worn it over the years, and I count my mother among them."

"UGH, I HATE HOW I LOOK!"
If the title to this feature is a sentence that goes off in your head every time you stand in front of the mirror, you need to keep reading. No, this is not your run-of-the-mill self-love spiel that will magically change your self-image by the end. It won't. And it definitely won't silence the voices that have told you to fix, hide, and erase parts of you deemed “too much” or “not enough”. What it will do is offer something rare: a reason, however small, to stop waging war with your reflection, and feel a little better about coming home to the person who's been there all along. You.
