Arundhati Kumar's approach to circularity is rather straightforward. According to the founder of Studio Beej, “Circular’ is a closed-loop system. If you've designed a product with consumer or post-consumer waste, and it reaches the end of its life, and it can be repurposed further into something else — then it's circular.” For instance, according to the founder, while upcycling ocean plastic to make apparel makes a good case for sustainability, it cannot be called circular unless it can be broken down and reused to make a new product. “Unless the end-of-life of the product has been considered, it is hard to claim that it is sustainable just from the initial material standpoint,” she explains.
