As the stars gather for the SAG Awards, Jane Fonda steals the show with an empowering speech

- AMY BIELBY

LIVING LEGEND

imagefierce and fabulous at the 31st annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in Los Angeles, Jane Fonda assured her fellow actors that, despite being honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, her career is nowhere near done.

"Your enthusiasm," the 87-year-old actress told the star-studded audience, "makes this seem, I don't know, less like a late twilight of my life and more like a 'Go, girl! Kick ass!'"

Recognized for her roles in films such as On Golden Pond, Klute, 9 to 5 and, more recently, Book Club: The Next Chapter, the Oscar winner is also revered for her activism in Hollywood and beyond - so it was no surprise to anyone when her acceptance speech got political.
