Human beings consume various nutrients for their growth, energy requirements and bodily functions. These nutrients can either be consumed in large quantities or small quantities. Those consumed in large quantities are called macronutrients. Thethree main macronutrients in our diet are carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Proteins are the foremost of all macronutrients. The name 'protein' in Greek means primary or one that holds first place, denoting its importance among the macronutrients.
