The pancreas is home to the insulin-producing cells, also known as the beta cells. When food is eaten, the body processes the carbohydrates and sugar is released into the blood.

The pancreas then secretes the hormone insulin, produced by the beta cells, which processes the sugar released in the blood that acts as fuel to the body. Insulin plays an important role in the proper functioning and metabolism of the body and brings down the blood sugar level.
