Interview: Photographer Olya

Q: Who are you?

A: I’m a portrait photographer, I take contemporary magazine-style female portraits.

Q: Was there anything specific that made you want to become a photographer?

A: In my case, I came to photography relatively late, driven by a mixture of curiosity and escapism. At the time I was working for a PR department in a large company and a girl I was friend with was taking beautiful photos. The way I think about it now, it was her passion that made me pick up the camera in the first place.

I started seeing photography as a way for me to stop time – to freeze reality. As my photography started to shape my personality, I realized that I needed to dive even deeper. I wanted to consume everything. I wanted to be more than just someone who takes photos and to become someone who creates art.

Q: How would you describe your photography style?

A: As an artist, it’s not always easy to define your own style, especially when you always grow and evolve. At least, it hasn’t been easy for me. This led me to asking my clients what they thought about my style and here are some of the answers:

“Your photos… they are like poems: it’s impossible to describe what you see. You can only feel it, but you can’t explain”.

They are like a footprint of a dream, it’s an attempt convey something that you can only see with your heart.”

“There are photos – reflections, then there are ballads, music, poetry…What you feel, but can’t put into words.”
