Pay It Forward

On her daughter’s deathbed, Sheeba Ameer made a promise that’s changed the lives of over 1,000 children with cancer.

Sheeba Ameer’s daughter’s last words to her were a cry for help. Not for herself, but for thousands like her who battle the deadly disease of cancer and do not have enough support. “Every time I would sit by her hospital bed, she would say, ‘Ma, Don’t sit here. There are other children who need your support. They might not be financially well off like us and you can help them’.” It has been three years since she lost her daughter (she was 13) to acute myeloid leukemia, but Ameer says she sees her in every child she has helped fight the disease since. Ameer runs an organisation called Solace that provides financial aid of almost ₹8 lakh every month to the many beneficiaries she works with. Solace has successfully helped over 1,000 patients so far.
