At five, she decided she wanted to be a doctor, but then she faced the camera for the fi rst time. f bb Femina Miss India World 2016 Priyadarshini Chatterjee speaks to Hemchhaya De about the moment that changed everything.
-

The soft-spoken, doe-eyed Priyadarshini Chatterjee won hearts the moment she stepped into the banquet hall of a Kolkata hotel to lend her support to the fbb Colors Femina Miss India East 2017 finalists, several of whom were from the Seven Sister States. Chatterjee, who is from Guwahati, looked every bit the queen in an exquisite black and silver trailing gown, as she took the stage during the zonal finale. Edited excerpts from our interview:
Do you remember your first shoot?
I was 15 years old when I started modelling, and it started as a hobby. All the glitz and glamour that we normally associate with the modelling world looked quite fascinating to me. But I was in school at the time, so I wasn’t giving it my singleminded focus. My first shoot was for my portfolio with a well-known photographer in Guwahati. I had no idea how to pose for the camera, and I didn’t know anything about makeup. But I was mesmerised when I saw the photos after the shoot. It was an amazing feeling.

"UGH, I HATE HOW I LOOK!"
If the title to this feature is a sentence that goes off in your head every time you stand in front of the mirror, you need to keep reading. No, this is not your run-of-the-mill self-love spiel that will magically change your self-image by the end. It won't. And it definitely won't silence the voices that have told you to fix, hide, and erase parts of you deemed “too much” or “not enough”. What it will do is offer something rare: a reason, however small, to stop waging war with your reflection, and feel a little better about coming home to the person who's been there all along. You.
