Hemchhaya De lists common ways in which people tend to sabotage their physical relationships

Do you feel that these days sex is just a chore? Are you making false promises to please your partner because you want to avoid getting intimate with him/ her? Or, is he/she least bothered about rejuvenating your lacklustre sex life as a couple? Before you start blaming your partner for all that is going awry in the bedroom, look within and watch out for these acts of self-sabotage.
CONSTANT REJECTION
Rejecting affectionate moves from your partner can often occur in relationships which could be attributed to factors like exhaustion, or emotional disconnect. However, consistent denial for physical intimacy, even reluctantly, can impact your sexual life, if left unresolved.
“I love my SO but of late, sex has become routine, and we contradict each other with respect to various issues in our lives. I feel the spark has gone, and I find myself making all sorts of excuses to avoid sex with him,” says Swati Singhania, 33, a Delhi-based advertising executive. Although she finds herself constantly warding off sex on the slightest pretexts, she is yet to discuss the real issues with him. “Sexual denial can be a reaction to interpersonal discord. Physical intimacy enhances the emotional connect with your partner, and if difficulties, misunderstandings or insecurities rear their ugly heads, partners often resort to this,” says Dr Kedar Tilwe, psychiatrist and sexologist, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi, Mumbai.

"UGH, I HATE HOW I LOOK!"
If the title to this feature is a sentence that goes off in your head every time you stand in front of the mirror, you need to keep reading. No, this is not your run-of-the-mill self-love spiel that will magically change your self-image by the end. It won't. And it definitely won't silence the voices that have told you to fix, hide, and erase parts of you deemed “too much” or “not enough”. What it will do is offer something rare: a reason, however small, to stop waging war with your reflection, and feel a little better about coming home to the person who's been there all along. You.
