YOU might assume that a plant known as the Christmas rose is, in fact, a rose that flowers at Christmas. But you would be wrong. For although this is an absolutely essential winter flower, the resemblance of its gold-centred white flowers to roses is only superficial – it’s actually more closely related to buttercups.
