Richard Guthrie was a colourful character, with his smile, a glint in his eye and those decorative braces holding up his jeans.

He was known to many as the treasurer of the Northern Association of Model Engineers and for his appearances on their stand at Exhibitions. He was a keen backer of young engineers, always helpful and supportive. He regularly attended the NAME young engineer presentations at the NRM.
