Making a career as a filmmaker requires painstaking determination, resilience, and vision. It’s a tough road to travel. But 34-year-old Suraj Wanvari checks all the boxes. Born and raised in Mumbai, he attended a school in Chembur and graduated from Jai Hind College. Growing up in a big joint family, he has always felt a sense of community. “Imagine 8 kids running around, having each other as best friends all the time. The outside world did not matter,” he shares.

Suraj’s fascination with cinema began early. Movies have always been his window to the world and he found it incredibly invigorating to see how a story transforms into audiovisual work. By the time he turned 19, he had already interned with some post-production studios, after which he signed up for MTV’s On The Job and entered a film making contest. He ended up winning it and got an internship with Bollywood director Anurag Basu. “The experience of making a film was so amazing, I knew I had found my love. I wanted to be a part of telling stories.”
