THE SHORTAGE of skilled diesel technicians throughout the U.S. is a growing concern for many businesses.

Companies that employ techs are finding it diffcult to fill positions with qualified people, and the outlook for the future is not good. One estimate says there will be 1.2 million diesel-tech job openings by 2026 if things continue unchanged.
Schools like Universal Technical Institute (a Diesel Power Challenge sponsor) are working hard to change this trend by filling job vacancies with skilled, able-bodied employees. UTI offers a multitude of courses that teach students the skills they need to have a leg up entering the workforce. With hard work and dedication to the craft, students, upon graduation, are prepared for employment opportunities at truck dealerships and other diesel-engine-repair facilities, and UTI even has programs that help place graduates in jobs.
To further enhance its diesel curriculum, UTI has partnered with different engine and truck manufacturers to offer advanced programs. These courses give students more specialized training on specific engines and equipment.

Torque: Rotary Diesel No Pistons Needed
Building a diesel engine that does not use traditional pistons may seem odd, but in today’s modern age of high efficiency, low emissions, and weight reduction, an engine with a nonconventional rotor may be the key to things to come.
