Maserati To Go Electric From 2019

The year 2017 has witnessed some dramatic developments towards the electrification push in the automotive industry. Volvo going electric by 2019, UK banning fossil fuel cars by 2040, and major carmakers joining Formula E – to name a few, have been making headlines all over.

Now, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has confirmed its entry towards the electrified future. FCA will begin electrifying every vehicle from its flagship Italian brand – Maserati, by 2019. Then, by 2022, the company hopes that more than 50 per cent of vehicles across its various brands will use some form of electric tech under the skin.

Maserati’s SUV – the Levante, is expected to have a plug-in hybrid powertrain setup very soon.

FCA, until now, has been quite reluctant in adopting electric technology. In the meantime, most other companies from Europe and Japan are busy investing in an electrified car range. With many European nations planning to bid adieu to petrol and diesel powered vehicles – FCA seems to have joined the race right on time.

Can a Car Have Sprezzatura - The new Maserati convertibles are made for our times.

Sure, we can wax poetic on all of the impressive virtues of the new Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, the first all electric convertible in its class. A canvas top that opens in 14 seconds. Those sumptuous interiors, made from the same quality recycled fabric Prada uses. The range of gorgeous colors (choose from 27, or make it bespoke like an OG). The 818 horsepower that propels it from 0 to 60 in 2.7 seconds, which also makes it the fastest electric convertible in the world right now (fitting, since folgore is Italian for lightning). And that signature Maserati engine roar, specially engineered— and delivered through a state-of-the-art sound system—to mimic the vroom of the Folgore’s gas-powered V6 sister, the Trofeo.

FIRST LOOK 2021 Maserati MC20

A 621-hp mid-engine supercar that in form and function elbows the Ferrari F8 Tributo in the ribs, the 2021 MC20 is precisely the sort of car Maserati would never have been allowed to build a few years ago when the parent company still owned Ferrari.
