Nigeria Aims to Launch Diaspora Bond in the US to Reach $1 Billion in Monthly Remittances

Nigeria is considering launching a diaspora bond in the United States to achieve its goal of $1 billion in monthly remittance inflows. The Central Bank of Nigeria's governor, Olayemi Cardoso, announced this during an interview with Reuters in Washington, DC. Cardoso noted that Nigerians abroad are eager to invest in their home country, and the government's recent reforms have already led to a significant increase in remittances. The diaspora bond, which could be launched in 2025, aims to tap into the investment appetite of Nigerians living in the United States, who are keen to invest in assets and businesses back home.
