Shayan Kumaradas belongs to what one might describe as the third generation of Sri Lankan architects and was wholly ‘made in Sri Lanka’, having studied during the 1990s at the University of Moratuwa School of Architecture and gained his professional experience entirely in Colombo. Born in Colombo in 1971, he grew up in Jaffna where his father is the hereditary Custodian of the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil.
After qualifying in 1998 he worked in the office of Nela de Zoysa.
A resort within a lush village named Audangawa in Kibissa in the heart of the Cultural Triangle
of Sri Lanka has been designed to be sensitive to the surroundings that overlook the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
The delicate task of enlarging Amsterdam’s 19th-century train station has been resolved by Wiel Arets Architects with a project that interprets the historic typology in a contemporary key, opens a direct connection with the IJ River and creates routes with a precise formal connotation for travellers.
