By 2009 the local milk products met only 33 percent of the national requirement. In order to reduce the drain on foreign exchange resources, the Government set key targets towards self-sufficiency. Milco, Lanka Milk Foods and Cargills, the key players of the industry offer their views on the local dairy industry, its current standing and the way forward.
