In this issue
Seventeen years ago, Global Adjustments started the Annual Beautiful India Photo Competition - that year, there were just 12 entries in all. Today, the competition receives entries from expatriates living in all major metros in India - around 500 entries are sent in each year, with each image offering an amazing insight into the country. These are the images that we primarily use in Culturama - and time and again, people have come back to tell us about how these images have touched them, impressed them, and conveyed a sense of what India is all about. The 17th Annual Photo Competition instituted ‘Global Children’ as its special category for this year. It is a beautiful coincidence that India marks Children’s day on November 14, and our Awards Ceremony falls a mere two days later – and both events celebrate their innocence and forthrightness. So, we dedicate this month's issue to all global children - and have a special segment dedicated to those kids who lived in India, and had their childhoods shaped by this wonderful land.
We also have our regular segments: the 'Feature' focuses on the different types of stories that form the bedrock of Indian heritage. 'India Writes' reviews The Kaavad Tradition of Rajasthan - a book that explores a unique storytelling tradition. The 'Picture Story' brings you the sights and scenes from the Mylapore Festival - a fete organised during the Tamil harvest festival (in January each year) in the South Indian city of Chennai. And the 'Seeing India' segment takes you to Ananda in the Himalayas - a resort where you can heal your body and soul.
