Travelling is incredibly powerful. It shapes the person we become by inviting us to connect with new communities, new people and new places. It is also a thrilling escapade that refreshes our outlook on life, offering us different environments and experiences which make their mark on our memories and hearts. With that in mind, we bring you an issue that marries the best of both worlds when it comes to travelling at this time of year: snow-filled sojourns and winter sun wanderings.

In Amsterdam, Joe Mortimer explores the City of Diamonds, which has rediscovered its sparkle through gleaming boutiques, award-winning hotels and exciting new restaurants. In Salzburg, Rowena Marella-Daw heeds the call of The Sound of Music as she retraces the steps of the von Trapp family while soaking up some alpine luxury.
As for me, I make a reservation for Björn Frantzén's three Michelin-star venue, FZN, before falling for the soothing charms of the Atarmia Spa at Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi. Finally, I round off the month with a trip to Abu Dhabi’s Al Wathba Desert and experience pure opulence at Al Wathba, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa.
