An issue about art and fashion wasn't a result of observing what happens in Hong Kong. Many such pairings here result in marketing events that are either too limited to a privileged group or too commercial to be interesting additions to the temple of art’s diversity or as an experience in reality-shifting. Thing is, the connections between art and the art of fashion run deeper and are more intricate than first impressions might suggest. The two fields share common ground, crossing from highbrow through middlebrow to lowbrow. And, when fruitful, collaborations between them open new audiences to artists, as well as welcome funding, while benefiting brands and commercially constrained designers by stimulating creative processes and progressive thinking.
