These 13 places, all of which have opened in the past 13 months, are transforming Charlotte’s food scene. Leading the way is Heirloom restaurant and its chef, Clark Barlowe, who is an avid forager, and regularly makes trips to the mountains to find nuts and other ingredients to use in his restaurant. We also have a story about a restaurant that closed in the 1980s, the Town House, and how the grandson of the former owner is still serving food to the people who once ate there.

Our bonus feature this month explores what happened when the textile industry left North Carolina. The 3,500-word story draws the line from here to Bangladesh, where a factory collapse killed more than 1,000 people in 2013.
