The latest round of curbs implemented by
the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on
29 June 2013 are expected to be in place for a long time, according to Knight Frank Singapore.
The objective of the new rules is to encourage
financial prudence among Singaporeans,
standardize how local banks assess would be
borrowers, and maintain a stable and
sustainable property market.
The measures also serve to limit the financial
institutions’ over-exposure to housing loans
and reduce their financing risks from potential default by borrowers especially during period of high interest rates or economic recession,
noted the consultancy.
