We focus on the timeless appeal of Mid- Century Modern design and the ethos behind some of the greatest designers the world has witnessed. Ken and Isa Mishuku, owners of vintage furniture platform Mid-Century Manila, open their home filled with original collectibles and share how they’ve embraced the mindset of Ray and Charles Eames. Tokyo-based photographer, Andrew Faulk, artistically reinterprets Isamu Noguchi’s philosophies and aesthetic through a series of images taken across Japan.

We feature the people who have decorated their homes as a poignant reflection of their own personal style. In this issue is the gorgeous family seaside home that Mikka Padua shared with close friend Kitty Bunag, where her vivid memory lives on in the painterly colours of the La Union sunset. Bianca Monzon Cueva and Ria Prieto, who are both deeply rooted in the fashion industry, approach décor in the same way that they would construct an ensemble—with love and balance. Photographed by Paco Guerrero, our cover stories—Jet Acuzar and the workshops of Las Casas de Acuzar in Bataan—illustrate the excellence of Philippine craftsmanship. We juxtapose Jet’s minimalist yet heritage-centric home with the wonderful, creative grit of her family’s atelier. Chef Aaron Isip also opens his bachelor pad, sharing his Filipino wabisabi ethos. The latter’s gorgeous and uplifting work has a place in my office above refurbished, custom-made, vintage narra buffet by Allen Oblena. The impeccably elegant Fortune Ledesma gives us a peek into a day in her life while Juana Manahan Yupangco teaches us how to eat a rainbow palette of produce.

In this issue, we focus on these qualities and integrate
them with the principles of beauty and style that Tatler is
known for. Integration is key. As all the elements of our
lives are now fully intertwined and revolving around the
home, I believe we can fully embrace the concept of enduring, sustainable quality in our lifestyles.

Within our contemporary lifestyle, it has become de rigeur for one’s kitchen to become an inspiring space. You can achieve just that with the latest kitchen trends as spotted by Asia Tatler in this year’s EuroCucina during Milan Design Week. His ingenious architecture makes you feel immediately one with nature as the luscious greens of tree ferns and palms, and the calming blues of pools and ponds blur the lines between indoors and outdoors. 

In a similar fashion, the vivid African sky seems to float right into The Observatory, the spectacular home of IT entrepreneur Rory Sweet, nestled high in South Africa’s Waterburg Mountain Range.
