Photographed by Scott A Woodward, our cover story is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional bahay na bato designed by JJ Acuña, in collaboration with his sister, lawyer and philanthropist Geraldine Acuña- Sunshine. A true love letter to their heritage, the Acuña family home in the heart of the metropolis is a beautiful resort-like haven filled with local art and furniture.
We also explore this concept of Modern Filipino Architecture in a more in-depth manner as we speak to the architect Manny Miñana on the theories behind his body of work. From traditional weaves becoming a mainstay for home décor to a young Filipina, Mirei Monticelli, making waves at this year’s Salone di Mobile, this issue champions successful intersection of our exceptional craftsmanship and ingenious homegrown designers.
