The cover story in this issue discusses the extraordinary demand for freighters. Airlines and leasing firms are looking to convert older passenger jets into freighters, betting big on the boom in the e-commerce sector. This has opened a window of opportunity for passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversion companies who are witnessing a massive replacement wave that will push older freighters downstream to make room for newer conversion products.
In the regional report the attention is on North America where demand for air cargo is very strong. However, the dynamics of the shift from other modes of transport to air has left airports facing congestion and airline staff shortage. In the industry report we bring the attention back to dangerous goods transport by air. The continuous incidents of fire inside aircraft, airports and warehouses involving dangerous goods in transit are compelling air freight industry associations and other stakeholders to seek criminal action against culprits to eventually eradicate such situations.
And in our update, we feature the new Italian cargo carrier Aliscargo Airlines which begins operation in July with two Boeing 777-200ER preighters.
