We’re keeping close to home this edition with some indulgent Arabian escapes. Erstwhile editor Steven Bond went in search of a life less ordinary at Sofitel Dubai The Palm (page 62) where French-Polynesian style and new palatial residences left him longing for more.

Since we were in the neighbourhood, we also popped in to visit Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort (page 98), where Melanie Swan discovered a slice of Thai life in the heart of the Middle East.

We also took a tour of three Arabian cities and one South African destination in search for local flavour with Radisson (page78), spent 24 hours in Hollywood with Christian Sylt (page 128) and set sail for far flung lands in search of the world’s most picturesque island escapes (page 88).
