Morena's 10-year milestone
With the CAF Champions League final looming, Thapelo Morena has an opportunity to celebrate the milestone of 10 years with Mamelodi Sundowns by lifting the biggest trophy in club football on the continent. The 32-year-old has been a true servant at Sundowns and is in his 10th year, having won all the trophies except the Champions League. When Sundowns won the Champions League in 2016, Morena was a member of the team, but was not registered in the competition. Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gareth Ncaca led his Cape Town-based team Antalyaspor to victory in this year's Bayhill Premier Cup, over the Easter weekend, after beating his former club in the final. The Paarl-raised coach has been at the helm of a number of grassroots clubs since he called it a day as a professional player and has earned a number of accolades along the way. In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Mzoxolo Budaza, Ncaca discusses his rise from what he calls humble beginnings in eMbekweni, Langa and Gugulethu in Cape Town to playing for one of the country's biggest football clubs, Sundowns. He also shares his thoughts on where the beautiful game is now and what needs to be done to develop the game from the ground up.

After Kaizer Chiefs' dire streak of five losses in six matches, supporters were calling for changes to both the technical team and the playing staff for next season. It definitely hurt me
The start of the season was not so easy for versatile player Liam Bern. After Cape Town Spurs got relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the amateur ABC Motsepe League, there was a big legal battle over players' contracts. Considering that Spurs were no longer a professional team, players, including Bern, fought to have themselves declared as free agents due to the fact that the contracts they had were for professional players, not amateur contracts. It took a while, but Bern and his former Spurs teammates Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman and Mervin Boji, won their cases and were allowed to join clubs of their choice in the PSL. While the case was ongoing, Bern had already signed a deal with AmaZulu FC and was training with the club, but they had to wait until the case was finalised at arbitration before announcing him. Soccer Laduma's Tshepang Mailwane caught up with Bern to find out what the period was like for him and what moving away from home for the first time in his life has been like.

Mamelodi Sundowns are the type of club that plans for the future and it’s evident in how they sign players. In January, the club announced the signing of Khulumani Ndamane from TS Galaxy, a 22-year-old who was showing a lot of promise at both club and national team level. This is a player who Sundowns believe will be at the club for many years to come, unless a good offer from abroad comes along. Things have happened so fast for Ndamane, who looks set to head to the FIFA World Cup in a couple of months with Bafana Bafana. Just three years ago, he was playing for Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Diski Challenge, and now he could win the CAF Champions League with Sundowns and go to the FIFA World Cup as a Bafana player after a successful spell with Galaxy.
