Bafana Bafana will return to the FIFA World Cup for the first time since hosting the tournament in 2010. Hugo Broos' side finds itself in a tricky group with co-hosts Mexico, Czechia and South Korea. As the 1996 African champions prepare for the global showpiece, former South African goalkeeping coach at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Farouk Abrahams, sat down with Soccer Laduma's Junaid Benjamin to discuss tactics, personnel, and the team's readiness for the tournament.

I was very nervous, I won't lie

There are some players who walk away from the game when the final whistle blows on their professional careers – and then there are those like Innocent Mdledle, for whom football remains a lifelong calling. Spotted recently at the Epic Tshwane Top 4 in Irene, Mdledle rolled back the years with a standout performance for Dithlake Masters, reminding many of the quality and grit that once saw him rise through the ranks to play for Orlando Pirates. But beyond the touches, tackles and laughter shared with former teammates and rivals, there was something deeper – a clear, unwavering love for the beautiful game. Now part of the Dithlake Masters project, Mdledle is among a growing group of former professionals who have found renewed purpose through football. In this interview with Soccer Laduma’s Masebe Qina, the former left-back reflects on his journey from the dusty fields of Witbank to the bright lights of Pirates, the challenges that nearly broke him, and the passion that continues to drive him long after his professional career ended.

It's not a shock to me

Masilo Modubi is one of those South Africans who are making progress in Europe without a lot of attention back home. Based in Belgium, the former national U23 midfielder is slowly establishing himself as a coach in Belgium and is gaining respect in a continent that does not always open doors to black coaches. Soccer Laduma's Tshepang Mailwane got in touch with the former Bafana Bafana midfielder to find out how he got the job at Turkse FC and to get insight into being known as the 'African Pep' in Belgium.

Polokwane City defender Sapholwethu Kelepu did not pay his dues, he overpaid them. The 26-year-old started his career in high school before working his way to the Betway Premiership. This season he has been slowly but surely establishing himself in Phuti Mohafe's team, making 10 appearances across all competitions. Soccer Laduma's Siya Gijana conversed with the defender about his journey from amateur level to the Betway Premiership. The Lady Frere-born footballer also spoke about his injury setback, his PSL debut against Orlando Pirates, his objectives and more.

I can still remember those words

Bafana Bafana played two international friendlies against Panama at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday evening and then Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday night. The games, as you all know, finished 1-1 and 2-1 respectively with the visitors recording a draw and a win against us. Obviously, these were preparatory matches although we would have loved to win both of them to build our confidence and momentum ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. I'm pretty sure coach Hugo Broos had some of his questions answered in both games as he gave some players a run. With the game being the teacher, it was important for the players to be given a chance to prove themselves and I think most of them grabbed the chance with both hands. I must thank the supporters for coming out in numbers for both games. You guys were unbelievable and created such an atmosphere for the players to give their best.

In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Tiyani wa ka Mabasa, Singh reflects on his great time in Cyprus and finally breaks his silence on being snubbed for national duty.

There is no time to breathe

It's been 17 months since German coach Sead Ramovic resigned from TS Galaxy, live on television. He had been with the Rockets for three years, but felt it was time for a new challenge, which led to him joining Tanzanian club Young Africans SC. His stay at Yanga wasn't long – approximately 80 days, but Ramovic had made an impact with nine wins in 13 games. However, there was a bigger challenge and it came in the form of Algerian side, CR Belouizdad. After leading the club to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, which is their first time in 30 years, Ramovic granted Soccer Laduma's Tiyani wa ka Mabasa an exclusive interview. The German-born coach also responds to questions about whether he's ready to make peace with Rhulani Mokwena, who clashed with him when they were still in the PSL.

It makes me very happy

Reneilwe Letsholonyane made the brave move to the Botswana Premier League to join Matebele FC, where he was given time to settle in without being placed under too much pressure by management. It hasn't been an easy journey for the former Bafana Bafana midfielder, but he's found his feet and is in a good position to improve on the club's 12th-place finish last season. With six matches left to play this season, Letsholonyane is determined to work hard to help the club finish in a respectable position. Soccer Laduma's Tshepang Mailwane spoke to the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder to talk about his season thus far in Botswana and where his team has improved since he took over.

You can't resist the offer from Libya

These days, top players and coaches are heading to Libya. South African coach Rhulani Mokwena is the latest to make such a move, having joined Al Ittihad from MC Alger. Meanwhile, Botswana's poster boy Tumisang Orebonye is back in Libya with Al Shomooa, on loan from Moroccan side Wydad. Why is Libya becoming an attractive market? Orebonye breaks it all down to Soccer Laduma's Tiyani wa ka Mabasa, while explaining why he's very worried about Botswana football.

Chiefs' foreign fumbles

For any club in the PSL, the foreign market is a key area to gain a competitive advantage. Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have their fair share of misses, but there are also some epic success stories – think of Nuno Santos, Marcelo Allende, Arthur Sales, Brayan Leon and Olisa Ndah. In recent seasons, Downs have really doubled down on the South American market (either directly, or by signing Brazilians or Portuguese players from European clubs). As for Chiefs, they have struggled to maximise the potential of the foreigner allocation over the last decade. Big fees have been spent with little to show for it. What does the future hold for the current foreigner contingent and why did previous deals fail to work out? Soccer Laduma investigates.

This is where your character gets tested

Durban City FC may be enjoying a strong run this season, but for on-loan midfielder Ronaldo Maarman, the journey has been about far more than just results on the pitch. After arriving from Sekhukhune United in search of regular game time, Maarman has had to navigate the realities of limited minutes, a change in the technical team, and the constant demand to prove himself in a competitive environment. Yet, through it all, the 26-year-old has remained grounded - embracing the challenge, backing the team, and quietly working towards rediscovering his best form. With Durban City pushing for a top finish and a place in the Nedbank Cup final, Maarman opens up to Soccer Laduma’s Masebe Qina about his move to the club, dealing with setbacks, his relationship with his former coaches, and his determination to make an impact in the months ahead.
