Why would a car company care about a tiny widget on your iPhone’s Lock Screen? For Tesla, it’s not just about convenience—it’s a strategic move to redefine the electric vehicle experience.

Earlier this week, Tesla rolled out version 4.45.0 of its iOS app, introducing Live Activities support for Supercharging sessions, allowing U.S. Tesla owners to monitor charging progress directly on their iPhone’s Lock Screen and Dynamic Island without opening the app.

This feature, activated automatically on iPhones running iOS 17.2 or later, arrives as Tesla prepares for its June 2025 robotaxi launch, hinting at broader ambitions for real-time user engagement.

Tesla’s iOS app update, version 4.45.0, released on May 27, 2025, brings Apple’s Live Activities feature to Supercharging sessions, enabling real-time updates on the iPhone Lock Screen and Dynamic Island for devices running iOS 17.2 or later. When a Tesla vehicle connects to a Supercharger, the app automatically displays a widget showing the current battery percentage, time remaining until charging completes, charging output in kilowatts, estimated session cost, and total energy added in kilowatt-hours. For iPhone 14 Pro and newer models, the Dynamic Island offers a compact view of battery percentage and time remaining, while the Lock Screen provides a detailed dashboard, including a visual of the vehicle based on its selected color in the app’s Colorizer feature.

TESLA EARNINGS BEAT.BUT SPENDING SHAKES WALL STREET

Tesla beat Wall Street's first-quarter profit expectations, but the stock still fell as investors focused less on the quarter itself and more on what comes next: a much larger capital spending plan, a costlier push into Al and robotics, and a notably more restrained tone from Elon Musk about how quickly those bets will pay off.
