TESLA'S IPHONE APP UNLOCKS REAL-TIME SUPERCHARGING INSIGHTS ON LOCK SCREEN
Techlife News
|May 31, 2025
Why would a car company care about a tiny widget on your iPhone’s Lock Screen? For Tesla, it’s not just about convenience—it’s a strategic move to redefine the electric vehicle experience.
-
Earlier this week, Tesla rolled out version 4.45.0 of its iOS app, introducing Live Activities support for Supercharging sessions, allowing U.S. Tesla owners to monitor charging progress directly on their iPhone’s Lock Screen and Dynamic Island without opening the app.
This feature, activated automatically on iPhones running iOS 17.2 or later, arrives as Tesla prepares for its June 2025 robotaxi launch, hinting at broader ambitions for real-time user engagement.
But what does this small update reveal about Tesla’s strategy, and can it deliver on its promise of seamless convenience?
UNPACKING THE LIVE ACTIVITIES UPDATE Tesla’s iOS app update, version 4.45.0, released on May 27, 2025, brings Apple’s Live Activities feature to Supercharging sessions, enabling real-time updates on the iPhone Lock Screen and Dynamic Island for devices running iOS 17.2 or later. When a Tesla vehicle connects to a Supercharger, the app automatically displays a widget showing the current battery percentage, time remaining until charging completes, charging output in kilowatts, estimated session cost, and total energy added in kilowatt-hours. For iPhone 14 Pro and newer models, the Dynamic Island offers a compact view of battery percentage and time remaining, while the Lock Screen provides a detailed dashboard, including a visual of the vehicle based on its selected color in the app’s Colorizer feature.
