Securing India's digital future with quantum-ready cybersecurity

|April 2026
Quantum computers aren't here yet, but hackers are already preparing.
India faces 3,000 cyberattacks a day, and tomorrow's machines could crack today's encryption. The race isn't just cybersecurity anymore. It's a time battle India's digital growth demands quantum-safe security. Explore how Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), and next-gen encryption can protect critical infrastructure from future cyber threats.
India stands at a defining moment in its digital journey. With initiatives like Digital India and rapid expansion across financial systems, healthcare, telecom, defense, and space infrastructure, the country has built one of the world's most expansive digital ecosystems. However, this scale has also made India one of the most targeted cyber geographies globally. In 2025 alone, India recorded over 2.9 million cyber incidents, with attack volumes increasing nearly fourfold over the past four years, according to government data. On average, the country now faces more than 3,000 cyberattacks per day, underscoring the persistence and scale of the threat landscape.
The risk is both widespread and sector-specific. Financial services account for nearly 30% of all cyberattacks, followed by telecom (~16%), and healthcare, which in some studies contributes over 20% of total attacks. Indian healthcare institutions alone face more than 8,600 cyberattacks per week, while large-scale threat activity has crossed 369 million malware detections nationwide. The economic consequences are equally significant, with cyber fraud losses exceeding Rs 22,000 crore in a single year. As digital infrastructure becomes more interconnected, from UPI and e-governance platforms to 5G networks, drones, and satellite communication systems, the risk is no longer limited to isolated breaches but extends to systemic vulnerabilities across national infrastructure.
