More tools don't mean more security. As enterprises stack up identity platforms and legacy systems, blind spots grow. The key isn't more tech; it's smarter alignment with real-world threats.

Rethinking identity Inside the real risks behind modern cybersecurity

Most companies today are armed to the teeth with security tools.

Forty, fifty, even seventy separate platforms—all humming with alerts and dashboards. Yet breaches still happen. And often, the tools themselves become part of the problem.

That contradiction lies at the heart of modern cybersecurity, according to Yuval Wollman, President, CyberProof, a UST company. In a recent interview, he laid out why today's identity security landscape is in critical need of reevaluation. Not through more spending or more tech, but through sharper alignment with actual attack behaviors and smarter architectural choices.

When more tools become more risk

For enterprises managing dozens of overlapping security tools, the logic seems sound: more coverage equals more safety. But in practice, this tool sprawl often fractures visibility and creates operational drag.

Each tool has its own siloed data and alert logic. Analysts are left stitching together threat stories from disconnected fragments. In that fog, attackers exploit blind spots, moving laterally across environments that aren’t communicating effectively.

Instead of spending resources just to maintain tool hygiene, security leaders need to step back and reframe their architecture. Which threats are most likely to target this business? Which systems are truly critical? Answering those questions enables teams to consolidate redundant tools and focus on integrating the remaining ones into a coherent detection and response engine.

Rationalizing the stack doesn’t mean weakening defenses. It means tuning them to what matters most.
