AI for accessibility: Enhancing sign Language, lip reading & expression
PCQuest
|February 2025
Imagine a world where hands speak and AI listens. A groundbreaking tech is bridging the gap between sign language and speech, making communication seamless for the deaf community. From classrooms to workplaces, inclusivity is no longer a dream-it's happening now!
Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing accessibility, but one area remains largely underserved—solutions for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
While AI-driven tools have significantly improved visual and physical disability assistance, effective solutions for sign language translation remain scarce.
Enter DeepVisionTech.AI—a deep-tech startup led by Jayasudan Munsamy (Jay), Founder & CEO—on a mission to bridge this communication gap. The company’s flagship product, Let’sTalkSign, leverages AI, deep learning, and computer vision to enable real-time sign language interpretation, transforming accessibility in education, workplaces, digital content, customer support and public services.
A vision driven by necessity
Jay Munsamy, a 25-year IT industry veteran, initially launched DeepVisionTech.AI in 2019 to develop AI solutions. However, a personal experience—his own hearing impairment in one ear—made him realize the lack of effective assistive technologies for the deaf community.
Market research confirmed his concerns. Existing accessibility tools primarily provided captions or transcripts, failing to address core challenges in education, workplaces, and daily interactions. This realization prompted the company’s 2020 pivot toward AI-driven accessibility solutions.
By mid-2020, DeepVisionTech.AI was officially registered as a private limited company, and Let’sTalkSign was born—a first-of-its-kind AI-powered sign language interpretation platform.
‘Let’sTalkSign’: AI-powered sign language interpreter
Core technology: Let’sTalkSign is a computer vision and GenAI based system that enables seamless real-time interpretation between sign language and spoken/written language.
