The last time Scotland made it to a World Cup 28 years ago, Del Amitri's song Don't Come Home Too Soon was a request that sadly went unheeded.
The Glasgow band's tune was a nod to the country's perennial inability to make it out of the group stage at tournaments – after 12 attempts, it's yet to happen – but with hope that France 98 could be different. “The world may not be shaking yet, but you might prove them wrong,” the soft rockers sang.
Unfortunately, that World Cup went the same way as previous ones – with Scotland going home at the earliest opportunity once more. Now though, they're back, and there's a brand new song to mark the occasion.
