Gujarat widow alleges occult rituals, harassment; superstition under lens

A widow in Rajkot in Gujarat has alleged in a police complaint that her in-laws subjected her to demeaning occult practices and treated her as a bad omen under the influence of a spiritual healer, locally called ‘bhuva’.
She was married into a family in Dhoraji in the Rajkot district in 2014.
She said in the complaint that her husband suffered from colon cancer for several years. During his illness, the family allegedly mortgaged her jewellery to arrange nearly –15 lakh and also borrowed money from her relatives. She claims that alongside medical treatment, the family increasingly relied on superstitious practices.
