TWO-YEAR AGREEMENT TO MAINTAIN ROYAL NAVY SHIPS

- By WILLIAM TELFORD

DEFENCE firm Babcock International Group Plc has signed a major deal with the Government which will have a significant impact on the future of Devonport Dockyard.

Talks have been underway about a long-term partnership after the five-year Future Maritime Support Programme (FMSP) contract expired last month.

Babcock has this week announced a new two-year deal with the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The contract will ensure the continued delivery of vital fleet and infrastructure support for the Royal Navy's surface ships - a capability that remains critical to the UK’s operational readiness.

The agreement maintains the full scope of the existing FMSP contract, covering ship engineering delivery and management for Type 23 frigates, amphibious warfare ships, Sandown minehunters and landing craft vessels. This work continues to be delivered primarily through Babcock’s facilities at Devonport and Rosyth, in Scotland, where highly skilled teams provide the expertise, infrastructure and industrial capability required to keep the Royal Navy mission-ready.
