Report reveals homes needed for key workers
The Galloway News
|May 29, 2025
More homes are needed to tackle recruitment challenges in farming and forestry, schools, policing, health and social care according to new research on Key Worker Homes in the South of Scotland.
-
The newly-published ground-breaking research was carried out by South of Scotland Community Housing in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council, Scottish Borders Council, South of Scotland Enterprise and Scottish Futures Trust.
It will bring partners together across the region and nationally - with the aim of informing efforts to deliver more key worker homes in the region - aligning with the South of Scotland Regional Economic Partnership's Housing Action Plan.
The new research has demonstrated that a shortage of the right homes in the right places is having a significant impact upon key worker recruitment and retention in Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders, affecting thousands of staff and posts in the land-based industries, health, social care, education and policing.
