AMBAJI SHAKTI PEETH: A TIMELESS CENTRE OF SHAKTI WORSHIP AND DEVOTION

Home to the sacred Shree Visa Yantra, Gabbar Hill and the famed Mohanthal Prasad, the shrine is among India’s most revered pilgrimage destinations. Revered as one of Hinduism's holiest centres of Shakti worship, Ambaji Shakti Peeth has been a destination of faith for devotees for centuries. Located in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district near the Rajasthan border, the temple is counted among the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas, making it one of the country’s most significant pilgrimage sites. Every year, millions of pilgrims visit the shrine to seek the blessings of Goddess Amba and participate in its centuries-old traditions.

The temple is dedicated to Arasuri Amba, the presiding deity whose name is derived from the Arasur Hills, where the shrine stands near the origin of the ancient Saraswati River in the Aravalli range. Believed to have been worshipped since the pre-Vedic era, Ambaji represents one of India’s oldest surviving centres of goddess worship, where mythology, history and living traditions continue to inspire devotees from across the country.

What distinguishes Ambaji from almost every other major Hindu temple is the absence of a physical idol of the presiding deity. Instead of a sculpted image, devotees offer prayers to the sacred Shree Visa Yantra, an ancient Vedic geometric symbol believed to embody the divine energy of Goddess Amba.
