Tokai Lions knit comfort for cancer survivors

The Lions Club of Tokai has donated 40 handmade breast prostheses to the Breast Clinic at Groote Schuur Hospital, a project the club says is deeply personal, having lost one of its own members to breast cancer in 2021.
The prostheses, known as Knitted Knockers, are handmade from natural materials and designed to be soft, lightweight and comfortable enough to wear in a regular bra. They are intended as an affordable alternative for women who have undergone mastectomies or lumpectomies and cannot access traditional silicone prostheses.
Club spokesperson Mark Roussouw said the initiative gave members a meaningful way to respond to a real need.
